Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The Image Cropper runs entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas. Your picture is never uploaded, never sent anywhere and nothing is stored — it is safe for private or sensitive images.
How do I crop an image?
Load an image with the file picker or by dragging and dropping it onto the box. Then drag the crop rectangle to move it, drag a corner handle to resize it, and click Crop & Download to save just the selected region.
What is an aspect ratio and which should I pick?
The aspect ratio locks the crop box to a fixed width-to-height shape. Choose Free for any shape, 1:1 for a square (avatars, thumbnails), 4:3 or 3:2 for photos, and 16:9 for widescreen and video thumbnails.
Can I rotate the image?
Yes. Use the Rotate left and Rotate right buttons to turn the image in 90° steps. The final crop is drawn from the rotated image, so what you see is what you get.
Should I export as PNG or JPG?
Choose PNG for sharp edges, text or transparency and when you want no quality loss. Choose JPG for photographs where a smaller file size matters; JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas become white.
What image formats can I load?
Any image your browser can open works, including JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP. If a file is not a valid image or fails to load, the tool shows a short message and lets you pick another.
