How to use the QR code scanner

  1. Choose Use camera to scan live, or Scan an image to read a saved picture.
  2. For the camera, click Start camera and allow access, then point the rear camera at the QR code.
  3. For an image, pick a photo or screenshot that contains the QR code.
  4. The decoded text appears instantly. If it is a link, use Open link or Copy.

The camera stream and your images stay on your device — they are decoded locally and never uploaded. Stopping the camera releases it immediately.

Frequently asked questions

What does the QR code scanner do?

It reads the contents of a QR code — a link, text, Wi-Fi details, contact card and more — using either your device camera or an image you upload. The decoded text is shown instantly, and if it is a link you get a clickable Open link button and a Copy button.

Is my camera feed or image sent anywhere?

No. Scanning runs entirely in your browser — the camera stream and any image you choose are decoded on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is stored.

Why does the camera not start?

The browser needs permission to use the camera, so allow it when prompted. If you blocked it, re-enable camera access for this site in your browser settings. A device with no camera, or a camera already in use by another app, will also prevent it from starting — in that case use the image upload option.

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot or saved picture?

Yes. Use the Scan an image option and pick any photo or screenshot that contains a QR code. The image is read on your device and decoded the same way as the live camera.

Which cameras does it use on a phone?

It asks for the rear (environment-facing) camera by default, which is best for pointing at a code. If your device only has a front camera, the browser will fall back to that.

What types of QR codes can it read?

It reads standard QR codes containing URLs, plain text, phone numbers, email addresses, Wi-Fi credentials, vCard contacts and similar data. The raw decoded text is shown exactly as stored in the code.
