Text to Speech

Type or paste any text and have it read aloud, with a voice, speed and pitch you choose. It uses your device's built-in voices and nothing is sent to a server.

How to use text to speech

  1. Type or paste your text into the box.
  2. Pick a Voice, and set the Speed and Pitch to taste.
  3. Press Play to hear it. Use Pause / Resume and Stop as you like.

Handy for proofreading by ear, learning pronunciation, resting your eyes, or turning notes and articles into listening. The voices come from your own device, so quality and languages depend on what you have installed.

Frequently asked questions

How does the text-to-speech work?

It uses the voices built into your own device and browser (the Web Speech API) to read the text aloud. Because it runs locally, the text you type is never uploaded to a server.

Which languages and voices can I use?

The list depends on your operating system and browser — most show English plus whatever other language voices you have installed. Open the Voice menu to see every voice available on your device, then pick one.

Can I download the audio as an MP3?

Not directly — the speech is produced by your system and played through your speakers, so there is no file to save. If you need a recording, use a screen or audio recorder while it plays.

Why are there few voices, or why does it sound robotic?

Voice quality and choice come from your operating system, not from this page. Installing more system voices (or using a browser with richer built-in voices) gives you more natural options.

Is it free and private?

Completely free, no sign-up, and private — the text stays on your device and nothing is sent anywhere.

Can I pause and resume?

Yes. Pause holds the speech where it is and Resume continues, while Stop cancels it. Changing the text, voice, speed or pitch applies the next time you press Play.
