VAT & Sales Tax Calculator

Add tax to a net price or remove tax from a tax-inclusive total, and see the net, tax amount and gross at once. Works for VAT, GST and US sales tax. Everything runs in your browser — your data is never sent anywhere and nothing is stored.

Presets:

How to use the VAT & sales tax calculator

  1. Choose Add tax if your amount is net (excludes tax), or Remove tax if your amount is gross (already includes tax).
  2. Type the amount and the tax rate, or tap a preset (5, 10, 15, 20%).
  3. Read the net, tax amount and gross — they update as you type.

Add tax: tax is net × rate / 100 and gross is net + tax. Remove tax: net is gross / (1 + rate / 100) and tax is gross − net. The same formulas apply to VAT, GST and US sales tax.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add VAT to a price?

Choose Add tax, enter the net (tax-exclusive) amount and the tax rate. The tax amount is net × rate / 100 and the gross (tax-inclusive) total is net + tax. For example, 100 at 20% gives 20 tax and a gross of 120.

How do I remove VAT from a tax-inclusive price?

Choose Remove tax and enter the gross (tax-inclusive) amount. The net is gross / (1 + rate / 100) and the tax portion is gross − net. For example, 120 at 20% backs out to 100 net and 20 tax.

What is the difference between net and gross?

The net amount excludes tax, the gross amount includes it, and the tax amount is the difference between the two. Add tax goes from net to gross; remove tax goes from gross back to net.

Does this work for GST and US sales tax too?

Yes. The maths is the same for VAT, GST and US sales tax — only the rate and the name differ. Just enter the rate that applies to you; the labels (net, tax, gross) are neutral.

What tax rate should I use?

Use the rate that applies in your country or for your product. The quick presets cover common VAT and sales-tax rates (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%), but you can type any rate, including decimals such as 8.25.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is stored. It is safe to use for private figures.
