Discount Calculator

Work out the sale price and how much you save from any discount percentage, or reverse it to find the percentage off from two prices. Add tax after the discount if you need it. Everything runs in your browser — your data is never sent anywhere and nothing is stored.

How to use the discount calculator

  1. In Discount → price, enter the original price and the discount percentage to see how much you save and the final sale price, updated live as you type.
  2. Switch to Find discount % and enter the original price and the final price to get the percentage off and the amount saved.
  3. Add an optional tax percentage — it is applied after the discount, just like a real sales tax at checkout.

The formula is simple: amount off = original × discount% / 100, sale price = original − amount off, and with tax, final = sale price × (1 + tax% / 100). Results are currency-agnostic and shown to two decimal places.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the amount off. Subtract that from the original price to get the sale price. For example, 20% off $80 is 80 × 20 / 100 = $16 saved, leaving a sale price of $64.

How do I find the discount percentage from two prices?

Use the Find discount % mode: enter the original price and the final price, and the tool returns the percentage off as (original − final) / original × 100 together with the amount saved.

How does the tax option work?

Tax is applied after the discount, which is how most sales taxes are charged. The calculator discounts the original price first, then adds the tax percentage to that discounted amount to give the final price you actually pay.

Which currency does it use?

The calculator is currency-agnostic — it only works with numbers, so the results apply to dollars, euros, pounds or any other currency. Values are shown to two decimal places with thousands separators for readability.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is stored. You can use it offline once the page has loaded.

Can I stack two discounts?

This tool applies a single discount at a time. To stack discounts, calculate the first sale price, then paste that result back in as the original price and apply the second discount — stacked discounts are multiplicative, not additive.
