How to use the image converter

  1. Drop an image onto the box above, or choose a file (you can pick several).
  2. Pick the output format: PNG (lossless), JPEG or WebP.
  3. For JPEG or WebP, set the quality and, if converting from a transparent PNG, tick fill background with white.
  4. Check the preview and the original vs new file size, then click Download.

Everything happens in your browser using the native canvas API — your image is never uploaded and nothing is stored. WebP usually produces the smallest file for a given quality, while PNG keeps perfect quality and transparency.

Frequently asked questions

Which image formats can I convert between?

You can convert any image your browser can open (PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP and more) into one of three output formats: PNG, JPEG or WebP. The image is drawn to a canvas and re-encoded in the format you choose.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using the native canvas API — your image is never uploaded and nothing is stored. It is safe for private or sensitive pictures.

What does the quality slider do?

For JPEG and WebP the quality slider (0.1–1.0) controls how much the image is compressed. Higher values keep more detail but produce a larger file; lower values shrink the file at the cost of visible artefacts. PNG is lossless, so the slider does not apply to it.

Why convert a PNG to JPEG or WebP?

PNG is lossless and great for logos, screenshots and transparency, but photographs saved as PNG are often huge. Re-encoding a photo as JPEG or WebP can cut the file size dramatically. WebP usually gives the smallest file for the same quality and supports transparency.

What happens to transparency when I convert to JPEG?

JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas would otherwise turn black. Enable “Fill transparent background with white” to paint a white (or any) background behind the image before converting PNG or WebP to JPEG.

Does converting lose image quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPEG or WebP is lossy, so each save discards a little detail; keep the quality high (0.85–0.95) for near-identical results. Converting a JPEG back to PNG will not recover detail that was already lost.
