Frequently asked questions
What does the word frequency counter do?
It reads your text, counts how many times each word appears, and lists the words from most to least frequent, with a count and a percentage for each. It also shows total and unique word counts.
How is a word defined?
Words are runs of letters, digits and apostrophes, so don't stays one word. Punctuation and symbols are treated as separators. Turn on case-insensitive to count The and the as the same word.
Can I ignore common words like “the” and “and”?
Yes. Switch on Ignore common words to drop frequent English stop-words (the, a, and, of, to…), which usually gives a clearer picture of what a text is really about.
Is there a minimum word length?
You can set one. Raising the minimum length hides very short words, which is handy for keyword analysis and finding the meaningful terms in a document.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. All counting runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored on a server, so you can analyse private text safely.
What is it useful for?
Checking keyword density for SEO, spotting overused words in your writing, summarising what a document is about, and language or text analysis.
