Quick targets:

How to use the days until calculator

  1. Choose a target date in the date field.
  2. Optionally add a time — leave it blank to count to the start of the day (midnight).
  3. Watch the live countdown: total days, the months/weeks/days breakdown, and a ticking hours:minutes:seconds clock. Past dates show how long ago they were.

Use the quick targets for common moments like the next New Year or the upcoming weekend — each one fills the date field for you, then the countdown starts immediately.

Frequently asked questions

How does the days until calculator work?

Pick a target date (and an optional time), and the tool counts the time between now and that moment. It shows the total number of days plus a breakdown into months, weeks and days, and a live hours:minutes:seconds countdown that updates every second.

What happens if the date is in the past?

If the date you choose is already behind us, the tool flips around and tells you how long ago it was — for example 42 days ago — instead of counting down. The live clock keeps ticking either way.

Can I include a specific time of day?

Yes. Leave the time blank and the countdown runs to midnight at the start of the target date. Enter a time and the countdown runs to that exact hour:minute on the day, which makes the seconds counter meaningful for things like a launch or a New Year moment.

How are months and weeks counted?

The breakdown is a human-friendly split of the remaining whole days: it groups them into roughly 30-day months, then 7-day weeks, then leftover days. The total days figure is the exact count and is the number to rely on for precise planning.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The whole calculation runs entirely in your browser using your device clock — nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is stored. Refreshing the page simply recalculates from the current time.

What can I use it for?

Counting down to a birthday, a wedding, a holiday, an exam, a product launch, a deadline or a trip — or counting up from a past date to see how long ago it happened.
