Tip Calculator
Work out the tip, the total and how much each person owes in one place. Enter the bill, choose a tip percentage and split between any number of people — everything updates live in your browser and nothing is ever stored.
How to use the tip calculator
- Enter the bill amount exactly as it appears on your check.
- Pick a tip percentage with a quick preset, the slider, or by typing an exact figure.
- Set the number of people to split the bill, and optionally turn on round up total.
- Read the tip, total and per-person amounts — they update as you type.
The calculator is currency-agnostic: the numbers work the same whether you are paying in dollars, euros, pounds or any other currency. Displayed money is rounded to two decimals.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a tip?
Multiply the bill by the tip rate as a decimal: a 20% tip on a $50 bill is 50 × 0.20 = $10. The total you pay is the bill plus the tip, $60. This calculator does the maths live as you type, so you never have to reach for your phone’s calculator mid-meal.
What is a standard tip percentage?
In the United States, 15% to 20% is customary for sit-down restaurant service, with 18% a common default. Many people leave 20% or more for good service. Norms vary by country and by the kind of service, so the quick-preset buttons here cover the most common choices from 10% to 25%.
How do I split the bill between people?
Enter the number of people and the calculator divides the total (bill plus tip) evenly, showing both the amount each person pays and the tip portion per person. It is the fast way to settle up a shared table without arguing over the maths.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Either is acceptable; many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal. If you prefer to tip on the post-tax figure, simply enter the bill amount including tax in the Bill field and the result updates instantly.
What does the round-up option do?
Turning on round up total rounds the final total up to the nearest whole unit of currency, then recalculates the tip and per-person amounts to match. It is handy when you want a tidy, no-loose-change total.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is stored. The tool is currency-agnostic and rounds displayed money to two decimals.
