Frequently asked questions
How do I use the keyboard tester?
Click anywhere on the page, then press keys on your keyboard. Each key lights up on the on-screen layout and stays marked, so you can quickly see which keys work and which do not.
How do I find a dead or stuck key?
Press every key in turn. A key that never lights up is likely dead, and one that stays triggered or repeats on its own may be stuck. The info panel also shows the exact key and code for the last press.
Why do some keys not register?
A few combinations are handled by the operating system before the browser sees them (certain Fn, media or system shortcuts), so they may not appear. Most standard keys, including modifiers and arrows, are detected.
What are “key” and “code”?
key is the character or name produced (which changes with Shift and layout), while code is the physical key's fixed identifier (like KeyA), independent of layout.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser — no keystrokes are recorded, uploaded or stored.
Is it free?
Completely free, no sign-up. Press Reset to clear the highlights and test again.
