Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a number to words?

Type or paste any number into the box and the English words appear instantly below. For example 1234 becomes one thousand two hundred thirty-four. It updates live as you type — no button to press.

How large a number can it handle?

It names groups up to quintillions (eighteen digits before the decimal point), using the short-scale groupings thousand, million, billion, trillion, quadrillion and quintillion. Very long input is capped and a short message is shown so your browser stays responsive.

How are decimals read?

There are two modes. Plain words reads the fractional part digit by digit, so 3.14 is three point one four. Currency reads it as money, so 3.14 is three dollars and fourteen cents, rounding to two decimal places.

Does it support negative numbers and zero?

Yes. A leading minus adds the word negative (for example -5 is negative five), and 0 is read as zero. In currency mode zero is zero dollars.

What are the Title Case and ALL CAPS variants for?

The converter also shows the result in Title Case (each word capitalised) and ALL CAPS. These are handy for writing amounts on cheques, invoices and legal documents where a specific capitalisation is required.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is stored. It is safe to use for private figures.
