About VPN & proxy detection
Detecting whether a visitor is on a VPN, proxy or datacenter IP helps spot fraud, fake sign-ups, bots and abuse. A clean residential IP is the lowest-risk signal; a VPN, proxy or hosting IP is worth a closer look. Want the full picture? Try our IP Score tool for reputation and blacklist checks too.

Frequently asked questions
How does VPN / proxy detection work?
We check the IP against a live reputation database that flags IPs belonging to VPNs, proxies, Tor and anonymizers, and IPs that belong to a datacenter / hosting provider rather than a home connection.
Can I check any IP?
Yes. Your own IP is checked automatically; type any IP address in the box and press Check to test it.
What is the difference between a proxy and a datacenter IP?
A proxy / VPN hides the real user behind a shared IP. A datacenter IP belongs to a server/hosting company — often used by bots and automation, even if it is not a VPN.
Is this 100% accurate?
No detection is perfect — new VPN IPs appear constantly. This gives a strong, up-to-date signal, but treat it as one factor, not absolute proof.
Is it free and private?
It is free with no registration. The lookup runs in real time and nothing is stored.
Why is my home IP flagged as a proxy?
Occasionally a residential IP is mislabeled (it was recently used by a VPN, or your ISP routes through a carrier-grade NAT). It is rare and usually clears over time.
