Test Card Numbers

Official sandbox test card numbers for the major payment gateways and card brands — copy any number with one click. These are published test numbers only: they have no real funds and work solely in each provider's test mode.

Need your own? Generate synthetic Luhn-valid cards with the Card Generator, or simulate gateway responses in the Payment Sandbox.

How to use test card numbers

Payment gateways run a sandbox (test) environment separate from live payments. In test mode you use these published numbers to exercise every path in your checkout — a successful charge, a decline, insufficient funds, a 3-D Secure challenge — without moving any real money. Pair any number with a future expiry date (e.g. 12/34), a CVC (3 digits, or 4 for American Express) and any name and postal code. When you go live, swap your test API keys for live keys — the test numbers stop working, which is exactly what you want.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real credit card numbers?

No. Every number here is an official, published TEST number provided by the payment gateways for their sandbox/test mode. They have no real funds, are not linked to any account, and will be declined on any live payment system. Use them only to test your own integration.

What expiry date and CVC should I use?

For test cards, use any future expiry date (e.g. 12/34) and any CVC — 3 digits for Visa/Mastercard/Discover, 4 for American Express. Most gateways also accept any name and any postal/ZIP code in test mode.

How do I trigger a declined payment?

Each gateway publishes specific numbers that force a decline, insufficient funds, 3-D Secure challenge or other states — see the Stripe table below. In our own Payment Sandbox you can simulate approved and declined responses directly.

Can I generate my own test cards?

Yes. Use the Card Generator to create synthetic, Luhn-valid test card numbers by BIN, or the Card Validator to check a single number. These are for development and QA only.
