Methodology
Figures are aggregated from PAYATE's offline BIN/IIN reference dataset of 327,012 ranges, covering 225 countries and 18,372 issuing banks. Each range is classified by card scheme, type (credit/debit) and tier as published in the BIN registry. A BIN is public issuer routing data — the first 6–8 digits shared by millions of cards — not a usable card number. Percentages are of the total ranges in the dataset and are a snapshot, updated periodically.

Frequently asked questions
How many card BINs exist worldwide?
This report is built from a dataset of 327,012 card BIN/IIN ranges across 225 countries and 18,372 issuing banks. A BIN (Bank Identification Number) is the first 6–8 digits of a card number that identify the issuing bank and scheme.
Which card scheme has the most BINs?
In this dataset Visa leads with 99,770 ranges (30.5%), followed by Mastercard. See the full scheme breakdown above.
Are these real card numbers?
No. A BIN is only the public issuer prefix shared by millions of cards — it is routing information, not a usable card number, and nothing here identifies any individual card or person.
