How it works

Your course grade is a weighted average: the work you've already done counts for part of it, and the final exam counts for the rest (its weight). To hit a target overall grade, the final must make up the gap. This calculator rearranges the weighted-average formula to tell you the exact score you need on the final, and also shows the best grade you could still reach (if you scored 100%). If the required score is above 100%, the target isn't reachable with the final alone; if it's 0 or below, you've already secured it. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is stored.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the grade I need on the final?

The required final score is (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, where current is your grade so far, target is the overall grade you want, and weight is how much the final is worth (as a fraction). This tool does it for you as you type.

What if the required score is over 100%?

If the number is above 100, it is not possible to reach that target with this final alone — you would need extra credit or a higher score than the exam allows. The tool flags this so you can set a realistic goal.

What if it is 0% or negative?

A result of 0 or below means you have already secured your target grade — even a zero on the final would keep you at or above it.

Does it store my grades?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent or stored. For averages and GPAs see the GPA Calculator and Average Calculator.
