How to estimate a trip's fuel cost

Three numbers decide what a drive costs: how far you're going, how much fuel your car uses, and the price of fuel. This calculator converts everything to a common basis (litres per 100 km and price per litre), so you can mix units freely — kilometres with MPG, or miles with a price per litre. It then shows the total cost, the litres (or gallons) needed, and the cost per kilometre or mile so you can compare routes or vehicles. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is stored.

Frequently asked questions

How is the fuel cost calculated?

The tool converts everything to metric, works out the fuel needed as distance ÷ 100 × (L/100km), then multiplies by the price per litre. It supports kilometres or miles, three economy units (L/100km, km/L, MPG) and price per litre or per gallon.

What is the difference between L/100km, km/L and MPG?

L/100km (litres per 100 km) is used in most of the world — lower is better. km/L and MPG (miles per US gallon) measure distance per unit of fuel — higher is better. The tool converts whichever you use.

Can I use it for a round trip?

Yes — just enter the total distance you'll drive (double it for a return trip). The result scales linearly, so you can also split a long cost across passengers to share it.

Does it store anything?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent or stored. For currency see the Currency Converter and for unit maths the Unit Converter.
